TENNIS CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT

The BOC Tennis Club is committed to providing a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment for all members, guests, and staff. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behavior expected of everyone participating in club activities, both on and off the court.

1. Sportsmanship & Respect

  • Treat all players, guests, and staff with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship – win or lose – including fair play, honest line calls, and respectful conduct.
  • Abusive language, sexual harassment*, intimidation, or bullying behavior will not be tolerated.

2. Inclusivity & Community

  • Members are encouraged to foster a friendly, supportive atmosphere that promotes enjoyment of the game and community engagement.
  • The club is an inclusive environment. Discrimination or exclusion based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, religion, or background is strictly prohibited.

3. On-Court Conduct

  • Follow all posted court rules, scheduling guidelines, and time limits.
  • Respect court assignments and yield courts promptly when time expires.
  • Please sweep courts and clean lines before leaving the court.

4. Safety & Equipment

  • Shirts are required for all members. Only tennis shoes are allowed on the court.
  • Promptly report court damage or unsafe conditions to the Facilities Manager and/or to a member of the Tennis Committee.
  • Alcohol consumption must be responsible and comply with local laws.

5. Guests

  • Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests.
  • Guest fees must be paid and a waiver signed before playing.

6. Facilities & Grounds

  • Treat courts, clubhouse, and surrounding grounds with care and respect.
  • Dispose of trash properly and help keep facilities clean.
  • If you’re the last to leave at night, make sure that all doors are locked and that the cover for trash/recycling is lowered and latched.
  • Do not water the courts without permission from the Tennis Committee.
  • Other than sweeping, line cleaning, and leaf/nut removal, do not engage in court maintenance without permission from the Tennis Committee.

7. Noise & Courtesy

  • Keep noise, music, and conversations at a reasonable level, particularly near active courts.
  • Use mobile phones discreetly and avoid disruptions during play.

8. Animals

  • Pets of any kind are prohibited from the clubhouse and grounds.

9. Compliance & Enforcement

  • Depending on severity and frequency, failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in warnings, suspension of playing privileges, or termination of membership.

10. A Shared Responsibility

  • By participating in club activities, all members and guests agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a positive, respectful, and enjoyable tennis environment for everyone.
* Sexual harassment may take different forms. The following examples of sexual harassment are intended to be guidelines and are not exclusive when determining whether there has been a violation of this policy
  • Verbal sexual harassment includes innuendoes, suggestive comments, jokes of a sexual nature, sexual propositions, lewd remarks,and threats; requests for any type of sexual favor (this includes repeated, unwelcome requests for dates); and verbal abuse or “kidding” that is oriented toward a prohibitive form of harassment, including that which is sexual in nature and unwelcome.
  • Nonverbal sexual harassment includes the distribution, display or discussion of any written or graphic material, including calendars,posters, and cartoons that are sexually suggestive or show hostility toward an individual or group because of sex; suggestive or insulting sounds; leering; staring; whistling; obscene gestures; content in letters, notes, facsimiles, e-mails, photos, text messages,tweets, and Internet postings; or other forms of communication that are sexual in nature and offensive.
  • Physical sexual harassment includes unwelcome, unwanted physical contact, including touching, tickling, pinching, patting, brushing up against, hugging, cornering, kissing, fondling, and forced sexual intercourse or assault.
