About Us
Brattleboro Outing Club Mission
The mission of the Brattleboro Outing Club is to promote community participation in outdoor activities by developing, operating, and sponsoring affordable recreation programs, events, and facilities in Brattleboro and the surrounding towns.
We aim to encourage, develop, and promote family outdoor life and good fellowship.
Founded in 1922 by local sports enthusiast Fred Harris, the Brattleboro Outing Club (BOC) is one of the oldest civic outdoor sports associations in the country. BOC relies on an active volunteer base offering the community a great opportunity to join and participate in affordable outdoor activities year-round. Each program welcomes new members to join throughout the open season and offers lessons and special events to all ages. Most important of all, join us to meet and have fun with other outdoor enthusiasts.
History of the BOC
BOC volunteers are compiling a comprehensive history of the Brattleboro Outing Club, including its founding by Fred Harris. In the meantime, please enjoy the reflections of several former BOC presidents, including current president, Dave Twombly. The interviews were taped at BCTV’s Open Studio, hosted by Tim Johnson, on April 22, 2010.
