Boats will launch from the RowBOC boathouse on the West River on Spring Tree Road map. The race course will be a four-mile round trip on the Connecticut River. The start line will be near the Hinsdale/Brattleboro Bridge. Competitors will then race upstream, around the  Chesterfield Bridge stake marker and back.

The idea and planning for this race  was launched by Graeme King of King Boat Works.  RowBOC is reaching out to all members and friends of the club for volunteers to help with making buoys and blueberry pies.

Prizes will include a homemade Blueberry Pie, VT Cheddar Cheese, and other edible delights.

Registration fee is $75.00 per boat. A barbecue lunch at the boathouse following the race is included with the entry fee.
Family and friends are encouraged to stand on the pedestrian bridge at the Chesterfield turn around to watch the action.

Location: Putney Road next to the bowling alley, in the same building as Bond Auto Parts. Our side of the building is still marked with the old Brattleboro Pool and Spa sign.

Interested in picking up a used canoe or kayak? Or selling/trading a boat you don’t need/want? This is the time and place to do it and help out the BOC at the same time.

Boats may be dropped off on Friday, May 14 from 5 to 7 pm or on Saturday morning from 9 to 11:30 am (or by appointment). Sale/Swap will be from noon to 2 pm on Saturday. Best time to be there is by noon; the boats go fast!

Boat owners set their own asking price. BOC will retain a small portion of the sale price to fund the paddling program and for sales tax. Boat swaps are encouraged and donations of unneeded boats will be accepted. Sale/Swap is limited to all types of canoes, kayaks, rowboats and small sailboats. Sorry, no motorboats or motors.

A RowBOC membership will entitle you to use  BOC equipment, the boathouse and docks and to join in rowing events at no additional cost. All members must have previous rowing experience and be a competent swimmer; a signed waiver is required each season. Boathouse, equipment and local river orientation is required for all new members and must be completed before rowing from our facility.

Brattleboro Outing Club Rowing Program is a member-run organization.  All members are expected to contribute regularly to management, maintenance, operation and repair of the facilities and equipment. This may include professional skills (law, accounting, management, etc.), trade skills (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.), and rowing skills (coaching, orientation, boat repair, sculling certification, regatta management, etc.) All members are expected to help on DOCKS IN  and DOCKS OUT days.

The following is the Fee Schedule for the 2010 season:

• Returning and new members : $175.00
• Student Membership: $75.00
• Family Membership: $300.00
• Supporting BOC member (no voting, rowing or equipment usage privileges): $25.00
• Beginner Clinic Fee: $150.00
• Beginner Membership (immediately following clinic): $100
• Guest Fee (must row with a member or be approved by Board): $15.00 /day
• Rack Fee: $150. per season or $225. full year – paid in advance.
• Supplemental RowBoc/PRC membership (allows equipment, dock and rowing privileges at both clubs – must be full member at one club): $75.00
• Late season membership registration – Aug 15th to end of season $100.00

Over the past few days, our volunteer Gomers have set tracks and smoothed the skate lanes nearly everywhere. The tracks are terrific and you may find them taking you to new terrain when you come out to play this weekend.

Please stride, skate, or snowshoe with us to make the most of this magnificent winter. To help us all slide along the trail, there are Seven Strides you can take to sustain all the great snowplay at our club. Strive to be a better skier by practicing a few of these strides. Better yet, commit to practice all seven of them!

Seven Strides that Sustain Skiing

1. SIGN in! SHOW your pass! SKI the trails! Stay on the trail. Stride or snowshoe the skate lanes if you like, but ONLY stride the set tracks. No skate marks, footprints, paw prints, or bandits on our trails where they don’t belong.
2. SERVICE our trails as you SKI! Pick up STICKS; SNIP SUCKERS (snag a set of shears at the Hut); SCRAPE SNOW from tee markers and trail signage to show the way for all skiers.
3. SERVE as SKI AMBASSADOR! SIGN UP for your tour of duty to SERVE at least one morning or afternoon shift in the Hut.
4. SELL your friends on SKIING! Bring them to the Ski Hut. Invite them to join our club. SEND them our e-news so they can SUBSCRIBE.
5. SUPPORT our programs! SKI! SNOWSHOE! SKATE! SCOUT OUT an adventure! Give of your time and talent! SERVE on a team! Do the good deeds that need doing! No time to give? Then, contribute more to our club’s coffers.
6. SHARE yourself! SAY hi and send out a social vibe. Get to know your fellow shareholders in our club- make new friends! SHARE your ideas- SPEAK UP!
7. STRIDE ALIVE! In Sensation, Sentiment, and Spirit, SAVOR and CELEBRATE the gifts with which we are all graced! Skiing is good for the soul.
